VERDAD — Tomes I & II

Sourcing & advisory
Roots Intelligences — sourcing rare and precious textiles, tracing strategic supply chains, auditing on the ground what reports claim on paper.
From 2017 to 2023, Forweavers — my cultural engineering and ethical sourcing practice — served the most demanding houses in international luxury. Official supplier to a major group's textile library, adviser to the executive committee of a perfumery and beauty house, traceability assignments for fine jewellery. Then Covid, the war in Ukraine and Brexit together carried the company away, as they did so many small export service houses. Roots Intelligences now takes up its expertise, its method and its network — under a name that says the essential: going back to the roots of materials, territories and people. A trading post for materials, in the oldest sense of the word: a place you come to for what the ordinary circuits cannot find.
Three crafts meet here. I source: I travel to the source, to the people who produce them, for materials the ordinary circuits never reach. I trace: I follow your existing supply chains up to tiers two and three, documenting actors, flows and risks. I audit: I test real compliance in the field — Nagoya Protocol, CITES, duty-of-vigilance laws, the CSRD framework — against what the reports assert on paper.
INoble textiles
Linens from the great master flax spinners, silks — including my work on the revival of Moroccan sericulture — rare wools, hand-spun khadi, velvets, brocades, and the bast fibres I have studied since my earliest field research. Cloth of irreproachable provenance, for artistic directions and material libraries.
IIRare organic materials
Oud and agarwood from South-East Asia, frankincense and Eastern resins, waxes, mother-of-pearl, exceptional cosmetic ingredients — living materials whose supply engages whole communities, and which I have learned to secure for perfumery and beauty at the highest level.
IIIStrategic minerals
Malachite from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, agate from Brazil, mother-of-pearl from Polynesia — traceability studies conducted for jewellery and watchmaking in complex environments: informal economies, customary rights, territories under strain. Stones, fossils and exceptional mineral materials, always accompanied by their documented genealogy.
Rare wools drying — reading a material
Advisory — the ultracapitalocene
Twenty years in the field across thirty-five countries have convinced me of one thing: the companies that last are those that understand the world they operate in — not only the market, but the human groups, the territories, the cultures and the balances that hold them up.
I believe we have entered an era I call the “ultracapitalocene”. Because of it, organisations can no longer afford to separate economic performance from their human and environmental responsibility. Not out of idealism, but because regulation now applies with real force, because reputational crises spread within hours, and because global value chains are more fragile — and more closely watched — than they have ever been.
What twenty years of concrete assignments have taught me is that an organisation's true levers of lasting performance are no longer found in documents, declarations or certificates alone. They are also found in the reality of territories, in the trust of communities, in the coherence between what an organisation says and what it actually does. That invisible — yet measurable — capital is what I help build, secure and turn to account.
Auditing strategic supply chains
Supply chains that run through highly informal territories, indigenous communities or areas governed by international protocols contain fragilities no desk-based audit will capture. Those fragilities are legal, human and reputational: non-compliance with the Nagoya Protocol can expose an organisation to penalties of up to 5% of global turnover, quite apart from the consequences for operational continuity and credibility with investors.
› I carry out immersive investigations directly among the producers and communities concerned. I map human and legal risks, I incorporate the requirements of the Nagoya Protocol, of duty-of-vigilance laws and of the CSRD framework, and I set out operational corrective measures ready for your teams to implement. At the end of an audit I deliver a compliance table by criterion with risk-level scoring, a dated remediation plan, and the documented mapping of the value chain up to tiers two and three.
The other strands of the advisory workBuilding a credible, operational CSR — closing the gap between stated commitments and field practice, in the age of CSRD reporting. Decoding markets driven by strong local cultural logics — reading relational codes, implicit hierarchies and local acceptability before capital is committed. Valuing intangible assets — identifying, documenting and legally protecting what an organisation already knows and has never secured.
To go to the bottom of it
The method, the field sites and the dilemmas of this craft are told at length in VERDAD, Volumes I & II — Volume I for the anthropology of sustainable development and CSR seen from the ground, Volume II for heritage, luxury and globalisation.

Expeditions, residencies & laboratories
Learning expeditions, artist residencies, pairings with designers and creative laboratories — research through travel and encounter.
There are things no report, no conference, no creativity workshop can pass on. You have to be there. To feel wool still greasy between a spinner's fingers, to walk through a souk at the hour the traders unpack, to listen to a master craftsman explain why he refuses to sell any faster. This whole folio rests on that conviction: you understand a material, a gesture or a territory only by going there — and you truly create only when two forms of excellence meet.
ILearning expeditions
I design and lead learning expeditions: journeys of study and wonder that take curious travellers, corporate teams or executive committees anywhere in the world, to live experiences that lastingly change the way they see.
In Morocco, my anchoring ground, I lead exceptional odysseys: on the trail of the origins of life in the palaeontological beds of the Atlas and the Sahara, meeting the meteorite hunters of the desert, in the workshops of the maalems of Fez and Marrakech. Elsewhere I trace bespoke routes — the Silk Road and Uzbekistan, the Nepal of the weaver women, the highlands of Guatemala — wherever twenty years in the field have left me friendships and open doors.
Each expedition is written like a narrative: a through-line, encounters impossible to improvise, moments of silence planned like breaths. For companies I anchor it in substantive work — cohesion, strategy, CSR made flesh — which turns lived emotion into a lever for real transformation.

IIArtist residencies & pairings
Something irreplaceable happens when a master craftsman, heir to generations of gestures, meets a creator from another world. I have spent enough years in workshops to know that this encounter cannot be improvised: it has to be prepared, protected, translated. That is the principle of the residencies I design — pairing the expertise of a great African master craftsman with the creativity of a renowned designer from another country, and giving them the time, the place and the framework to create together a work neither could have conceived alone.
I choose the pairs with the care of a matchmaker of traditions: indigo dyeing facing Scandinavian textile design, the leather of the maalems facing avant-garde leatherwork, carved wood facing contemporary furniture. I negotiate the terms — shared intellectual property, fair remuneration, informed consent — because a residency only makes sense if it honours both parties. Then I document everything: the process becomes archive, exhibition, narrative.
IIICreative laboratories
The same pairing principle extends to cosmetic creation laboratories: bringing together holders of knowledge about living materials — resins, oils, dye plants, exceptional ingredients — and the formulation teams who today are looking for materials whose provenance is proven as thoroughly as their performance. The framework is the same as for artist residencies: informed consent, value sharing, documentation of the process.

Talks, masterclasses & TEDx
Speaking in public — TEDx, keynotes, masterclasses — and teaching: courses, school seminars, field schools.
Teaching and giving a talk are two different gestures. One builds a syllabus, assesses progress, repeats itself over a semester. The other holds in a single stage, a counted span of time, a room you have to win over once and for all. I have developed this second craft on TEDx stages, in corporate keynotes, on festival and trade-fair panels — wherever I am invited to fit twenty years in the field into forty minutes.
My subjects unfold there as narrative rather than lecture: the anthropology of materials and supply chains, the ultracapitalocene and its consequences for organisations, ethical sourcing and traceability, intangible heritage in danger — the same territories I cover in writing in VERDAD, or through the imagination in ORKKS, but carried by voice and body, before an audience.

Teaching & school seminars
Teaching is the part of my work that keeps me alive. For more than ten years I have given courses, seminars and masterclasses in leading institutions — IESA, ESMOD, Institut Français de la Mode, PSL / ENSAD, ModArt, Central Saint Martins in London. I bring what the textbooks do not contain: anthropology as lived, real supply chains, ethical dilemmas as they actually arise at three in the morning in a workshop on the other side of the world.
Let me issue a formal invitation here: any training institution, in any country in the world, may call on me — universities, schools of art, fashion, design or business, professional bodies, corporate academies. I teach in French, English or Spanish; in person wherever you are, or online. And for those who want to go further, I design field schools: anthropology taught in situ, in various countries, where you learn in contact with communities rather than in the abstraction of a classroom.
My preferred themes: the anthropology of materials and textiles, operational CSR and sensitive supply chains, intangible cultural heritage, creativity and craft knowledge, luxury economies, the ethics of sourcing — and the use of role-playing games as a teaching tool, which I practise with my students as much as with the executives I train.

Africa & the Gulf states
Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman and the African continent — the territories where I work, and the UAEFI collective of which I am cultural director.
I live in France and I build my projects from Marrakech, where I often am. It is from there that I set out for the field, and there that my phases of analysis, writing and remote teaching are conducted. Morocco is no backdrop for me: it is a lifetime's work in progress. In the medinas of Fez and Marrakech I spent years among the tanners — men whose hands carry the mark of the dyes for life — and among the maalems whose skills feed, often without their names ever appearing, the greatest collections in the world. There I now work on projects that hold me body and soul: the revival of Moroccan sericulture, the valuing of the kingdom's precious materials, the transmission of the crafts.
On the other side of the peninsula, the Emirates. During my 2024 assignment, prepared with the French embassy in Abu Dhabi, I travelled to Dibba al-Hisn, an isolated community in the emirate of Sharjah. There lived a collective of grandmothers fighting to safeguard their textile craft while the skyscrapers of oil cast their shadow over their creations. What the IRTHI Contemporary Crafts Council achieves with them — the Heritage Rising programme — is proof that safeguarding intangible heritage is not incompatible with modernity. In Dubai I met the Fatima Bint Mohamed Bin Zayed Initiative, where hundreds of women weave, from their homes and by choice, pieces that represent their country on the world stage.
In the imagination of sustainability professionals, the Gulf states exist under a single lens. I saw something else there: battles fought in the shadow of stubborn geographical prejudice, and women who win. It is between these two shores — Africa and the Gulf — that the next chapter of Roots Intelligences is being written, on a 2026–2033 horizon. I tell what goes on behind the scenes at length in both volumes of VERDAD.
UAEFI — cultural director
“The diaspora is a memory in movement, a latent force,” wrote Maryse Condé. That is exactly what UAEFI puts into practice: a non-governmental organisation based in Paris, with relays across the African continent and in the Caribbean, mobilising diaspora expertise worldwide to strengthen innovation ecosystems where they are most lacking — infrastructure, access to technology, talent training, project financing.
Within this collective I hold the position of cultural director. My role: to ensure that innovation is never conceived without ground beneath it. I bring the cultural and heritage dimension to the programmes — the anthropological reading of territories, the articulation between inherited craft knowledge and creative industries, the conviction that sustainable development begins with respect for what peoples already know how to do. I find there the Triple Helix method dear to the organisation — aligning the visions of academia, business and institutions — enriched by a fourth voice: that of the cultures themselves.

Projects & commitments
Tashkent, Traditions du Monde — a humanitarian, artistic and cultural association safeguarding intangible textile heritage — and the mandates that come with it.
Before Forweavers, there was Tashkent. An association, a vision, an ambition: to explore the textile worlds of the planet, document vanishing craft knowledge, connect it to worlds capable of honouring it. The name itself said the essential — Tashkent, that crossroads city of the old Silk Road, where threads have crossed between East and West for centuries. I registered the association in the Journal officiel in November 2014, and I have been its founding president ever since.
Tashkent, Traditions du Monde is a humanitarian, artistic and cultural association dedicated to safeguarding intangible textile heritage. Its purpose holds in a few lines I have never needed to rewrite: safeguarding the intangible heritage of humanity; defending women's access to work and their rights, up to the ownership of their own tool — the loom, the sewing machine; enabling them to earn a living with dignity, without charity, and to remain in their rural lives if they so wish; safeguarding dialects, songs, rituals — everything that makes up their heritage, which is also ours, from the tapestries of Aubusson to the listed weaves of Breton heritage.
This love has a centre of gravity: Uzbekistan and the nomadic peoples of the world. From the steppes of Central Asia to the encampments of the Sahara, I learned from them that wealth travels in memories and gestures, not only in coffers. The association has led field missions in Nepal, Azerbaijan, Morocco and South-East Asia; organised craft fairs and museum exhibitions; conducted research on bast fibres; and contributed to the documentation of first peoples' heritage — Ainu of Japan, Raute of Nepal, Aït Baamrane of Morocco, Kaqchikel of Guatemala — in the spirit of the 2003 UNESCO Convention.

Institutional mandates
Solidarity is not an ornament of the soul: it is the architecture of my view of the world, and its natural ground has always been Tashkent. From 2020 to 2025 I sat on the Board of UN Women France. Alongside my colleagues — and its president Céline Mas, whose energy and strategic intelligence command admiration — I learned as much as I was able to bring: reflection, project development, advocacy for women's rights, in direct continuity with the association's founding articles.
From 2018 to 2026 I sat on the Scientific Council of Héritage & Civilisation, an association dedicated to the preservation of world heritage and to peace, a member of the federation of associations for UNESCO. Eight years of research, consultation and expertise in the service of one conviction: heritage is not a luxury of peacetime, it is a condition of peace itself — the same conviction that drives my doctoral research in anthropology, devoted to a distinction that haunts me: the difference between a heritage that dies out and a heritage that disappears.
The other projects
The UAEFI collective, of which I am cultural director, is presented with the territories of Africa and the Gulf. The symposiums, salons and exhibitions I organise — including the Fil-de-Vie symposium, built around Bess Nielsen's work — are found under Events, symposiums & gatherings.

Organising events, private salons, symposiums and exhibitions — including the Fil-de-Vie symposium, built around Bess Nielsen's work.
Some works demand a setting worthy of them — not a fair, not an anonymous trade show, but a moment composed like a score. That is the craft I practise: conceiving and organising events — private salons, symposiums, exhibitions, professional gatherings — where the work, the material or the idea finds its natural audience.
I do it above all for women creators I admire. For Bess Nielsen, whose house Khadi and Co raises the hand-spun cotton of Indian artisans to the rank of collector's cloth, I organise the Fil-de-Vie symposium, which gathers around her work the people who matter. For Isabelle Anselot, creator of textile worlds of rare delicacy, I orchestrate private salons in the same spirit.
My score covers everything: the venue and its staging, the selection of pieces and the story they tell, the guest book — collectors, artistic directions, chosen press — and the very rhythm of the day. A successful event resembles a conversation that has found its form: you enter curious, you leave changed, and the cloths have spoken their own language.
I open this expertise to other creators, houses and institutions whose work deserves such care — by recommendation or by correspondence. The same principle of pairing drives the residencies and laboratories I design elsewhere.
What I organiseSymposiums — including Fil-de-Vie, around the work of Bess Nielsen (Khadi and Co). Private salons — by invitation, for creators and houses. Exhibitions — in museums and off-site. Professional gatherings — collectors, artistic directions, chosen press.
Freelance journalism and books — reportage and investigation for economic and human-rights media, VERDAD Volumes I & II, ORKKS.
Writing is a single craft that takes two forms: the commissioned piece and the book. I write for economic media and for human-rights media whose names I keep to myself — confidentiality is part of the job, and my commissioning editors know why they ask it of me. But the world should know: my pen is available. Twenty years of field anthropology make a particular kind of journalist — an investigator who knows that a supply chain is traced like an enquiry, that a testimony is gathered like a rite, and that an economic truth often hides in a cultural detail nobody has looked at.
What I offer newsrooms and editorial directions: long-form reportage in territories that are hard to reach; investigation into global value chains, raw materials, luxury and what goes on behind it; the portrait of artisans, leaders, communities; the op-ed and analysis — that view of the world I call the ultracapitalocene and document book after book. I write in French, English and Spanish; I also conduct interviews in Arabic and in Amazigh.
My instinct is a detective's: cross the sources, test documents against the field, find again the people everyone thought untraceable. My stories are verified, sourced, and written to be read.

VERDAD — Volumes I & II
VERDAD is the book I should not have written — I say so on its first pages, and it is not false modesty. In a deep sense, its true authors are the weaver women of Nepal, Cambodia, Ghana, Pakistan, Morocco, the Emirates, Azerbaijan and so many other countries. In it I tell anthropology not as a library discipline but as I lived it: in workshops, medinas, steppes and executive committee rooms — on assignments for the greatest luxury houses as much as for UNESCO, UN Women and cooperatives whose names will never appear in a sustainability report.
Volume I lays the foundations: the anthropology of sustainable development, CSR seen from the ground, peoples' rights and the birth of my commitments — from the Tashkent association to the Forweavers years, from the Nepalese weavers who taught me that the thread sometimes breaks, to the grandmothers of Dibba al-Hisn. Volume II raises the tension: heritage, luxury and globalisation — what becomes of craft knowledge when the whole world wants to appropriate it, and what the ultracapitalocene does to the cultures that inhabit it. These are the two reference works behind my advisory and supply-chain audit work.
The same pen, turned towards the imagination rather than the investigation, gave birth to ORKKS. Volume 1 follows an orc who breaks his people's codes to embrace his freedom: heroic fantasy with anthropological undertones, where the clans, rites, languages and traumas of imagined peoples are built with the same rigour as my field monographs. The sequel is being written.
The world this book came out of — role-playing, imagined worlds, the table — is told in the folio Games & fictions.

Games & fictions
Role-playing, the ORKKS universe, historical re-enactment, miniature painting — imagined worlds as a laboratory for the real one.
I want to say it here without evasion, because it is too often left unsaid: playing role-playing games matters immensely to my personal, empathetic and creative development. It is a game, certainly — but a game that builds my professional identity. Spending hours in someone else's skin, improvising in the face of the unforeseen, holding a coherent world together for a table of players: there is no better training in listening, in negotiation and in reading group dynamics. The anthropologist and the game master are, at bottom, doing the same job.
That is why I do not hesitate to bring the dice to a seminar: I use role-playing as a teaching tool with my students at the grandes écoles as much as with the adult clients I train — executives, CSR teams, creatives. Putting a management committee in the skin of a village council facing a mining project teaches more about local acceptability than ten expert reports.
IThe ORKKS universe
Orcs too deserve to have their history written. ORKKS was born of a parallel life I have led since adolescence in the worlds of heroic fantasy and role-playing, from Dungeons & Dragons to the worlds I invent for my own tables. The novel is its written trace; the table remains its laboratory.
IIHistorical re-enactment
You understand a society better once you have tried to put on its costume. Historical re-enactment taught me that through the body: the weight of a coat of mail, the patience of a medieval encampment, the precision of a period gesture. With Fief et Chevalerie, the association I ran for years, we brought the Middle Ages back to life not as a spectacle but as an enquiry — every seam, every recipe, every ritual checked against the sources. The association's adventure has closed; the passion never left me.
IIIPainting & miniatures
It continues today at another scale: the miniatures I paint, triple-zero brush in hand, in the silence of the workshop. Make no mistake — those hours bent over a miniature breastplate are hours of active meditation, of learning colour, light and detail. The same eye that tells linen from hemp by touch trains itself, at night, on the reflections of armour at twenty-eight millimetres.
Role-playing, re-enactment, painting: three practices the professional world files away too quickly as hobbies, and which are in truth my workshops of empathy, rigour and creation. I gladly turn them into workshop formats for schools and companies — as set out in the folio Talks, masterclasses & TEDx.
